The Bonarka Nature Reserve is an inanimate nature reserve. Interesting geological structures and formations are protected here. They were uncovered during the extraction of marl rocks in a quarry that is no longer in use. The exposures concern Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary rocks. Here you can see, among other things, the erosive bottom of the Upper Cretaceous sea and fault thresholds cutting through the abrasion surface. Since this area, as well as the whole of Krakow, was once covered by the sea, in the reserve you can also observe traces left by marine animals in the rocks. Those interested can see traces of the life of sea snails, mussels and sea urchins in natural conditions.
